More dates have been added to John Mayer’s upcoming summer tour. It will occur at the same time that he releases his CD/DVD live collection.

Mayer’s trek, sponsored by BlackBerry, will kickoff at Summerfest in Milwaukee on July 2. Brett Dennen and Colbie Caillat will be joining John on his first leg. The trek will be visiting cites across the US in addition to Toronto through the first part of August. The second leg, which was recently announced, will be launching in Charlotte, NC on August 19 and remain on the East Coast through August. The first few shows in the run will have Paramore as the opener, then from there OneRepublic will take over.

Starting June 2 the new date pre-sale tickets will be made available by Music Today. Access to the general public will occur on June 7.

In a blog post Mayer said recently that the set lists in addition to many of his hits will also include favorite covers and blue tunes of songs that moved me. The goal is to introduce people to some music that might not have been found otherwise. According to a recent press release, on his website Mayer will be inviting fans to vote on encores and to include video footage and photos from fans at the shows.

Mayer is also preparing for the release on July 1 of his “Where the Light Is: John Mayer Live in Los Angeles.” The show was filmed at Nokia Theater last December. It’s a two CD/DVD set as well as Blue-Ray package featuring three very distinct sets. One set is an acoustic performance, another is a performance that includes the full band of Mayer’s, and the third is a set featuring the John Mayer Trio with Pino Palladino and Steve Jordan.

Mayer’s new live set follows his 2006 release “Continuum,” the Grammy award winning album that spawned the No. 1 hit single “Waiting on the World to Change.” “Continuum” also included another hit single “Dreaming With a Broken Heart” as well as the latest single from Mayer, “Say,” which currently is climbing the mainstream and pop radio charts.
